EKU Instructional Design MS Program
Program Summary
The Instructional Design and Learning Technology program is a graduate curriculum designed to prepare students to create, evaluate, and improve learning experiences in education, corporate training, healthcare, and other professional environments. The sequence begins with foundations in instructional systems, learning theory, and major design models. Students then apply these concepts by developing instructional units, multimedia products, online learning components, gamified learning experiences, and UX-informed design artifacts. The program emphasizes data-driven decision making and the ability to design for diverse learners and organizational contexts. It concludes with a guided internship and a professional portfolio that demonstrate practical experience and readiness for real-world instructional design roles. IDLT Curriculum – Curriculum
Contributions
I played a central role in shaping this program academically and professionally. I helped develop and refine the curriculum so it aligns with learning science, Quality Matters standards, accessibility expectations, and industry practices. I have taught several courses across the program, including those focused on multimedia design, online learning, game-based learning, data analysis, and the final portfolio experience. In my teaching, I focus on alignment, learning theory, cognitive efficiency, accessibility, and practical design strategies that prepare students for success in the field.
Beyond instruction, I strengthened the program through my work in faculty development and learning systems leadership. My experience with Canvas administration, LMS governance, educational technology integration, and institutional training directly informed how the program prepares students for modern workplace tools and workflows. I mentor students through their internship and portfolio development, helping them connect theory to practice, build professional confidence, and enter the job market with strong evidence of their capabilities. My contributions support a culture of applied design, continuous improvement, and real-world readiness that defines the program.
